What does the Cervical Cancer vaccine help prevent?

The vaccine helps prevent diseases such as cervical cancer, genital warts and pre-cancerous lesions of cervix, vagina and vulva caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16 and 18.

What is Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)?

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a common virus. Many people with HPV have no symptoms and can pass it on to others. Types 6, 11, 16 and 18 cause approximately 70% of cases of cervical cancer and 90% of genital warts.

Who is the vaccine suitable for?

The vaccine is suitable for girls/woman aged 9-26

When does the vaccine work best?

The vaccine works best when given before you have contracted HPV.

How is the vaccine administered?

The administration of the vaccine is via an intramuscularly injection.

What is the normal course of this vaccine?

It is a 3 dose-course. You get the 1st dose administered, the 2nd dose is given two months after the 1st dose and the 3rd dose is given four months after the 2nd dose.
